Exclamation In need of help with my tranny !

own an 88 Camry with 260,000 miles , Automatic. The only problem is about 5 years ago the overdrive started malfunctioning, and now almost never works so now i am down to 3 gears and a large power loss, I was wondering if the powerloss is just from age or from a malfunction some where ? any ideas on the tranny problem ?

loss of power is probably due to the torque converter, as for the overdrive, the servos, selenoids for that shift are probably dead

rebuild, swap

i had the same problem. no overdrive and only 3 gears.

turned out it was a faulty solenoid on the trnsmission.
my "NORM" light didnt ever come on, when it did, car ran fine and everything worked.

.................

my "norm" light hardly comes on anymore, oversdrive works.
could there be a problem???

just get a used transmission. cheaper than a rebuild.
