Japan Help! Plasmacluster illumination?

Last night, I drove our new TCH for the first time at night. With the running lights/headlamp switch in the off position, the plasmacluster backlighting is on.

When turning the running lights/headlamp switch to the 'auto' or 'on' position, the plasmacluster lighting & display backlighting goes off and I can't see any of the controls or temp settings. . .ls this normal? Do you all have to turn on the overhead light to see which button you're pushing or temp setting you're rolling the control too at night? ? ? ?

Does it go off or just dim? Because I know if it's getting dark out and you turn your lights on, it will dim the spedomete cluster, the clock, and the radio. I would assume it would also dim the plasmacluster, unless maybe theres something wrong with the bulbs or control, i'm not really sure.

When I turn the lights to 'on' or 'auto', it goes off completely. . .I have to assume this is not normal, but would like to confirm before heading off to the dealership. Anyone else? ?

BTW, I've tried the brightness control.

On another note, we all wish there was more intelligence on the television, there's a control called 'brightness', but it don't work either. . .

Ok, I've now had a chance to evaluate and properly record what happens with our TCH.

Daylight conditions:

ON ------ Climate backlight OFF
* -------- Climate backlight OFF
Auto ----- Climate backlight ON
DRL Off -- Climate backlight ON

Nighttime conditions:

ON ------ Climate backlight ON
* -------- Climate backlight ON
Auto ----- Climate backlight ON
DRL Off -- Climate backlight ON

Turn the odometer stick to the right. YOu can use this to adjust the brightness and even turn it off.
