96 camry door harness help...

Hello All
My 96 camry was having a problem where the drivers speaker stopped working all together. I tracked it down to a broken wire where the boot goes through from the door to the body. When I pulled the boot back to feed a new wire I saw that a lot of the other wires are cracked or getting ready to break. Has anyone had any luck at the junkyards or am I just going to find the same problems there? I could patiently fix them but am also wondering about two wires tapped into the harness on the body side? This car is stock as far as I could tell so I'm a little mystified. Also if I go the fix it myself route what gauge wire would be correct?

Thanks in advance!!!

Brian

Hi Brian. Don;t even bother trying to fix it. My friends drivers door on his '92 had the same issue, and he swapped the harness with the one from a spare door he had. It;s just normal ware and tear.

Several ways to get a new one:
1: Pick and Pull Junkyard. There is a decent one in FreeTown MA.
2: Ebay. I just checked, and nothing now. But look ever few days.
3: Put a WTB ad int he WTB section of this forum.
4: Dealer. LAST RESORT, as this will NOT be a cheap item.

Good luck!

A very common problem perhaps caused because of the continued opening and closing of this door. Many a power window problem is caused by this.

Hey, Thanks for the replys... Apparently my email is not getting reponses or I would have said thanks sooner! I have to admit that fixing those wires one by one seems very tedious but I wasn't sure if any harness I got out of a Junkyard would have the same problem. Also I have two wires tied into the harness right near the plug inside the body but I suppose I can patch those into another harness. With the long weekend I didn't really get a chance to look at it more...

Brian

... oh and thanks for the WTB suggestion ASG14... I just posted there!
