What motor do I have

I own an 87 camry and was looking through the paperwork of the owner before me, and notice the engine was swapped, but it doesn’t say with what. Where on the block or other would I look to see what motor I have so I know where to start in buying parts. Thank you

take a pic of your engine with a digicam and post it on here, the people on the board should be able to figure out which engine it is

87 - 91 (gen 2) Camry's came with 3S-FE (I4) or 2VZ-FE (V6).

Since the engine was swapped you could have anything in there, but you said 3S-FE or 3S-GE. So i'm gunna say 3S-FE.

Heres an old pic of my 3S-FE:

If you have an O2 sensor going into the front of your exhaust manifold heat insulator, it's a 3S-GE, if it's just going into the right side, it's 3S-FE. Look at the sticker(s) on the underside of the hood. The previous owner may have had an engine swap, but that doesn't necessarily mean he swapped the stock motor out for a better one. He could have just swapped in a rebuilt 3S-FE or 2VZ-FE. If it's a 3S-GTE, the exhaust manifold heat insulator is flattish and is very different looking from that of a 3S-FE or 3S-GE. If it's a 2VZ-FE, perhaps that MIGHT be a "V6" emblem somewhere on the exterior.

first tell us if it's 4 cylinders or 6 cylinders, and if it's 6, tell us if it's V6 or I6, that'll narrow is down a bit
