If you have an O2 sensor going into the front of your exhaust manifold heat insulator, it's a 3S-GE, if it's just going into the right side, it's 3S-FE. Look at the sticker(s) on the underside of the hood. The previous owner may have had an engine swap, but that doesn't necessarily mean he swapped the stock motor out for a better one. He could have just swapped in a rebuilt 3S-FE or 2VZ-FE. If it's a 3S-GTE, the exhaust manifold heat insulator is flattish and is very different looking from that of a 3S-FE or 3S-GE. If it's a 2VZ-FE, perhaps that MIGHT be a "V6" emblem somewhere on the exterior.
