Whoops, I forgot....

I was setting up my car to change the oil (putting it on ramps, pulling the oil plug) when as I was crawling out, I realized that I forgot to pick up an extra oil filter. Since the old oil is now sitting in the waste pan, I can't hop in and take a trip to pick one up until I get oil back in the engine..

How much of a problem is it if I run new oil through an old filter (3mos old, 3.5k miles on it).

Or should I just get a friend to run me over to the parts store and pick up a new one before replacing the oil?

Cool

oil filter filtration typically only lasts 5000-7500 miles, and they don't filter for several hundred / over a thousand miles when new.

Go to the store, change the filter & top off. No big deal.

Refill with fresh oil. When you get the chance change the filter, no problem. Buy a spare.
