Anyone have aftermarket stereo that is flush mounted?
Is it possible to get an aftermarket stereo that installs flat to the console like the stock stereo does? Most stereo's ive seen usually stick out a little bit, and come with a little plastic piece that goes around it. I would like to have an aftermarket CD/mp3/Sirius/XM stereo, but still have it like the stock stereo is, not popping out a quarter of an inch. Anyone got pics of their flush install?
Ok.
Steps 8 and 9 are about the flush mount. Ignore the rest if you know how to install a cd player.
Here are the steps.
YOU DO NOT NEED AN ADAPTER! How ever you do need a wiring harness to connect the stock wires to the after market unit.
Step one. Get a wireing harness. Get blue but-connectors the audio shop may have them, if not an auto parts store will.
Step two, on the bottom of the black peice surrounding the cd player take a flat head screw driver and push it in the bottom edge, pry it out. Everything will pop in and out. After it is popped out, pull it out and down.
Step three, Unscrew the ((4)) Screw holding in the stock unit and pocket. Pull the stock unit out, It may be a little bit hard to pull it out. If it gives you trouble pull it up and out. (there is a little knob thing that helps you aling it the unit while putting it back in, located on the right top side under the screw *you will see it*)
Step four, dissconnect the stock unit, pull the black wire in the bottom left hand side out, *this is your antenna wire*
Step five, make sure the wireing harness plugs into the stock plugs.
Step six, connect the cd players wiring harness to the wireing harness that connects to the stock connectors. *on the cd players wireing harness just match the colors to the other one with the but connectors* *CLAMP DOWN BOTH SIDES*
Step seven, turn the cd player on, check balence, fade.
Step eight, take stock unit, unscrew the stock player from the metal peices, put the new unit in its place screw it back in.
Step nine, put the cd player back where it belongs, screw it in.
replace plastic peice that surronds the cd player. VIOLA! Done.

What year Camry do you have? I have an 01 and I'm dealing with the same thing.
That is what im talking about!! Even some of the pics here the stereo hangs out a little. That kenwood is FLUSH! When its off it looks like the car has no stereo. That rocks. Thanks for the pics.
i have a filp face, but when it is open it is flush,if you cant get it to work stock you can 1 you can drill new holes to set it back,2 you can make a new bracket.
i might ask what gen and what deck?
