Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to install neons in my interior i have a 96 camry and i would like the neons to run to a switch.........help greatly appreciated
Ok, a way to think of a switch is like a garden hose. When you kink the garden hose, on one end of that kink you have water running still, waiting to be disbersed. On the other end it is emtey.
When you un kink this the water will flow free once again.
A switch is baslicy a break in the positive line leading from a 12v + source. When the switch is turned off, the eletrical current is cut off anywhere after that switch. Here is a diagram, if you have any more questions pm me or im me @ TRD 87 Celica on aim.

nice pic but one important note (i have no idea how much u know about electricity and what not) but dont hook the postive and the ground wire to the same part on the neon light (doesnt distinguish this in the pic) there should be a negative and postive place on the light
I'd show u how i did it in my cam, but then i'd have to kill u. what u need to start off is cut off the cigarete lighter part, then' you'll have two wires, tap 1 to the positive and the other to the engative of the battery, if it lights up, then u got it right otherwise it's backwars, then just run some wires to hook it up. If u need to run multiple neons, rememebr to splice the possitives together and the nagatives together, don't just link them in a chain or it wont work.

A switch on the ground wire is a bad idea. U want ground to be strait, easy, and allways on. a fuse is ok, but these interior neons run such low voltage that u don't need one. I run 5 and i don't have fuses on any of them and i've never had a problem. If your looking for a good place to mount the switch, check out those litle rectangles on either side of the e-brake. I mounted 2 little switches in one of those pannels and i htink they look great.

when i installed my 2 foot neon in my trunk it was pretty simple. i cut the cigarette lighter plug off, hooked the red wire up to a switched power wire, and hooked the black wire to a ground. but when i installed my 2 smaller neons... it wasn't that easy. i had to leave the adapter on and solder the power and ground wires to the correct wires inside the lighter adapter. i think the smaller ones had some sort of transformer that the power needs to go through before it lights the tube. i took some pics but haven't had time to post them yet.
what i did was i hooked the ground up to a bolt or something in the floor, and i put the switch on the drivers side kick panel (to hide the switches from my parents so they didnt think i was mutilating their car) and then i hooked the positive wire up to the fuse box on the drivers side of the car by the door kind of... umm just put a wire in there and it turns on... it worked for me for almost a year now... no problems. if you want you can solder it to the fuse in the fusebox and then put the fuse back in... thats what i did it works perfectly... my neons are under my seats and in my visors...
