rough shift from park to drive. and "norm" light problem

lately i have noticed that after i start my car, I push the release button on shift knob and put it into drive. once into drive, I get a rough transition. it makes a nosie and kinda clunks and moves car a bit. a little bump or drop. hard to explain. then its fine when i drive. like the tranny has something wrong.

i have a automatic 1990 camry.

any suggestions as to what is the problem?
ed

ALSO- I have noticed my green "norm" light. very rarely comes on any more. A while back i had a bad solenoid on tranny and was missing a gear. that was replaced and seemed fine. car still shifts good while driving and has correct amount of power. just seems i might be loosing out on something becasue my norm light wont show. the "pwr" and OD buttons both work. seems that when the norm light does come on , it comes on when i start car then after driving for a bit it dissappears.

could this be related to my first problem? could wiring be loose causing it to sometimes come on then off?

any help would be aprreciated!

the clunk, well join the club, nothing can be done except a tranny rebuild, and well its not worth it

i just let the engine rev down to idle then shift, the clunk is much less

although i've heard that it might be motor mounts, could be worth looking into

thanks, i do have a blown engine mount i know for sure. i posted in the post about polyurethane filled mounts but noone answered my question.

would the clunk have to do with mount being destroyed?

well if the engine can move a half inch and hit the other side of the mount, then that'll give more than just normal dying tranny clunk

to determine if its my tranny or mount shpould i wait a little and let engine rev then change. if it less clunk, i know its my tranny?

is that logical?

check the mounts the dog bone mount on the right side of the vehicle wears out and check the front and rear engine mounts, check yer trans fluid level if its too high it will also bang into gear, to check the tranny fluid vehicle needs to be level trans in neutral and fully warmed up, the level on the dipstick should be at the hot level
