96 Camry Starting Problem

I am currently having an intermittent problem starting my 1996 Camry (2.2 automatic). It seems that when I try and start the car it will just make a humming sound (not a click) and won't start. If I turn off the ignition and re-try starting the car it will start, although it may take several attempts. Recently the problem has gotten worse. I checked the battery and it is holding a charge. I have also cleaned the terminals. Has anyone had this problem or might know what the problem is? Thanks for you the help.

If you are certain the battery is good, there's two main components to look at that can be causing this problem: starter and ignition switch. Starter or ignition switch, or both, could be worn out and only intermittently passing current to the solenoid and starter.
