I don't know if anyone else knew about, or posted this already but:
It will be illegal for vendors to sale HID kits for "on" or "off road" use after 8/15/03. Apparently the government did a study on HID glare and stepped in to curb the sale of kits.
So if you are thinking about buying a kit..you better do it quickly.....otherwise you will have to buy used pieces off ebay and rig your own 'ish up.
If ya'll want more info, I post some later............
AWWWW FUCK THE GOVERMENT! Damn old people going and messing crap up again. I bet the old rich people will still be able to buy them in their BMWs and Benzes.

Well see that's the catch.......you will still be able to buy HID factory upgrades if your car has that option....so technically, you're right, people will still be able to buy the HID option through their dealers.
But as far as those Super HID, HID max, etc.....and other advertised KITS like you see on Ebay....those will be regulated.
Also let me re-phrase: It wont be illegal ON 8/15/03.....thats the date by which all interested vendors need to prove that their kits are compliant with NHTSA standards, which is virtually impossible. So starting on that date, they will start the process to regulate the sale of those kits.
Originally posted by Tony the Tiger It is a good thing... at least we know that there will be much less Civics with 100000000k HID kits and their f*cked up beam patterns
but how many cops will actually enforce it? I look at this like jaywalking.

You'd be suprised.......cops around here will give you a ticket for having an HID if it's too purple or blue....or too much glare. That's why I stick with 4100k because you couldn't tell my Cam' apart from a Maxima or Lexus coming down the street at night time. But you get these guys with "10000k" as was mentioned...they stick out like sore thumbs...in a bad way.
I saw a Nissan Sentra the other day that looked like it had black lights, it's HID was so purple.
But as far as enforcing vendors..that's to be seen.
Now this is just to probibit the sale of the whole kits, what's to say about us people who allready have our kits in our cars. Are we gonna have to take em out cause i dont think i'd be able to go back to old bulbs. Maybe you'd be getting lots more business now Tony!

Just the sale of kits will be regulated.....
But having kits for use on public roads has ALWAYS been illegal, but if you have the OEM color and install them right, cops wont notice anyway.
Thing is......you will always be able to buy OEM HID parts on ebay, so you'll find alot of DIY on making your own kits.
Originally posted by [SMAN] well i've gotten my car inspected at the toyota dealership for my yearly inpspection and they have never given me a problem for my hids.
Yeah, as long as your high beams still work, they wont notice....when I had HID on my past ride, I lost my high beam function because it was a 9004 (hi/low bulb)....and the inspecter said something about it because he was checking the functionality of my lamps.
Selling bootleg chinese VCDs are illegal too, so it's not a big deal. Besides, vendors can still sell components, i.e. "We don't sell kits, but we DO sell wiring harness, capsules, and ballasts." That's all one needs in general.

Yeah but the difference between VCD's and HID's is, that people have actually tried to blame their accidents on glare from poorly aimed or installed HID.......I can't remember the link, but some old folks sent a bunch of letters to the Gov. against HID in ALL cars, but that ain't happenin' so the next best thing was to regulate kits.
True, I have HID's in all three of my cars, and I never get hassled, even when I get pulled over during the weekends in "heated" areas
Of course, all three of my HID's look OEM, and they all have no/minimum glare and all are 4100-4300k.
No doubt........
What some folks don't understand is...you don't need 8000k or 10000k to get OEM color.....as long as you take some time to customize your install instead of slapping them in...all you need is 4100k.
