Please, HELP ME, I beg of you all! My auto-transmission is going out on me!
As if you did not already know, here is the low-down on my ride:
*1994 Toyota Camry
*Trim Level: LE
*Engine: i-4 (5SFE)
Mileage: 116,589 Miles and still going strong (considering that I address the transmission problems before it gets much worse)...
*No "REAL" transmission work, besides having a trusted shop do some occasional "normal transmission labor".
*NO, I am not going to just sell my car, so please don't suggest it. IT IS MORE THAN WORTH IT TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. Thanks.
* I am OPEN to suggestions, I don't know what I should do, and I hope you guys can help, I NEED OPINIONS AND I NEED TO KNOW MY OPTIONS SO I CAN MAKE AN EDUCATED DECISION! What should I do try to go manual or stick with an auto? After-market? Or out of a MR2 or Solara? Used, New, or Refurbished? From who/where? How do I get it here? How hard is it going to be for my local performance transmission shop to install it for me? (i.e: if the transmission costs $500 (shipped), I only will have $500 left for labor fees / and other necessary parts/adaptors.
*** I HAVE $1,000 TOTAL, to spend on the transmission, that has to include the cost of labor time, and any shipping and handling charges that may be incurred in buying a new transmission. ***
The current transmission's low-down:
1. All electronics and sensors are in good condition.
2. The mechanical aspect of the transmission is fucked. The DISCS ARE SLIPPING! It needs to be rebuilt or tossed out. The amount of shavings/shit/clutch material present will eventually lead to a useless transmission (I prefer tossing the slush box, and replacing it with something that has somewhat better-performance.) I would like to get something that will fit in without a TON of modifications to the existing stock set-up. I do realize however how much labor is involved with this process, regardless of transmission maker, but the less labor the better.
I do not feel that I personally have enough experience to take on the task of swapping a transmission on my own. That is why I am going to be taking it in, and labor hours cost $$$!
3. Even if I did get it rebuilt, I think the work will be so extensive and expensive, why not go and get something better then trying to build this slush box back to working condition?
I am going to be embarking on the process of acquiring a NEW T R A N S M I S S I O N !

I hope something good can come out of this, I am so grateful for my parents being able to back me up some on the funding of this process this time around, and I am also grateful for all who may be able to help me with my dilemma!
Thank you so much for any and all information that you may be able to provide to me!
Sincerely,
Brandon Mendez
