Camshaft question

I notice i had a knocking sound from my engine while the car is idling. The RPM also goes up and down and sometime drop to about 5 or 600 and caused unnormal vibration. There is a guy told me that is camshaft knock and suggest me to adjust it.

my question is that is it safe to drive? What could be the cause? i have 5SFE.

i'm not sure but i dont think its the cam. it might be a sensor. go to the mr2 forum and ask them, they seem to have pretty good knowledge with this engine. here . go to the mk2 section and goin into naturally aspirated section. they'd probably be very interested in your turbo also.

I don't recall camshafts "knocking"...maybe loud ticking or tapping. Whenever I hear knocking sounds, I automatically look at the bottom-end... but I guess sometimes sounds are hard to describe in text
