a new feature or a problem?

Hi, guys,

I have a 06' Solara SE, 4-cyl with automatic transmission. I notice that sometimes when the car goes downhill, engine braking, if that's what it is, seems to kick in - RPM revs at 3000 @ roughly 50 mph. What bothers me the most is that this does not happen all the time. So, is this a new feature or an indication of some transmission problem? My last Toyota was a 93' Camry LE and I certainly did not have this "feature". Thanks.

Best Regards,

-Alan

Sorry, I think I post this in the wrong forum. But Solara is considered as a Camry Coupe, so forgive me

Does the RPM pickup when this happens? Could be the trans kicking down a gear or for some reason the O/D kicking in (late?). Does the trans have any options such as O/D on/off or driving pattern selection?

When the car goes downhill, as soon as I apply the brake, the RPM revs up and it feels like the trans kicked down a gear. However, I am not able to do this consistently. This model of Solara does not have O/D on/off switch, instead it is equiped with this so-called Sequential Mode. Most of time I just use the regular "D" position.
