97 ES300 Struts issue

Hello everyone I've got a problem with an 97 es300.

The problem with the car is that when I get it to about 80 Km/h, it starts to shake violently. So at first I thought it must be the tire pressures or whatever. So I made sure the tires were inflated properly and tried again. Again the same thing, once I get to that speed it just shakes a lot.

So then I thought the wheel balancing must be off, so I took it to the tire dealer. The tires were only about 7 months old and the good years came with free service. Anyway the dealer said that he'd balance the tires for me then roate them. But he said the problem is my front struts.

He said that the car was proabably driven into a crub thus damaging the strut. Its my sister's car so I dont know what happened. In the end he qouted me $1800 CDN to replace all four struts with Monre struts. Also he said the sway bar link kits need to be changed.

Has anyone had a similar problem like this? and is 1800 CDN the norm for chaning all for sturts and the sway link kits?

It just seems so expensive, I'd like to get your comments on this. Thank you

About the car: 97 lexus es 300, 60K miles, has the suspension level selector. (toggle switch to make the suspension firmer or softer)

If I convert from 1800CAD to USD, that is roughtly...

$1,723.45 USD

I find that a bit too expensive. If the other struts are good, why replace all of them?

it's good practice to replace all struts at the same time, at least either just the fronts or just the rears. mismatched struts may lead to trouble later down the road.

and that is way too much for struts. especially if you don't get new springs. i bought a set of KYBs new for 225 USD and installed myself. you do the math.

EDIT: just noticed about the susension selector button....

are the struts different for those?

Thats what I was wondering. From the estimate the dealer gave it was the regualr monroe struts not even the Sensa Tracs. ALSO he wanted to change the link kits for front and back, 140 bucks a piece.
