Bill of Sale - Avoid Sales Tax?

I am contemplating buying a vehicle from a 3rd party but I want to avoid paying any sales tax, if possible. The title is with the financing company so the 3rd party has to give me a bill of sale then have the financing company send me the title. Is there anyway he could put $0 as the sales price (so consider it a gift) and then I would be able to avoid paying any sales tax?

An avice from lawer:

If you put $0 and declare it a gift you must claim it as a gift on your tax return and pay income tax.

If you put a $1.00 you will pay sales tax from this amount ($1.00)

Good luck on your new vehicle,

Sam

how well do you know this third party? reason being are they willing to do something (i'm assuming) that is illegal? if this was easy to get away with, why wouldnt everyone selling a car offer to do this?

if it's a good car then you might get away with it... but if you have trouble with the car later good luck trying to go through court with a 0$ bill of sale.
