A belt is either too loose or something that it is driving has a bad bearing. Which belt, Alt and A/C or PS. There is an adjustment to tighten the Alt belt at the Alt mount. The unit is moved one way or the other in its mount to tighten or loosen the belt. The same for the PS pump.

The link below provides access to service manual info.

also try rubbing dry soap on the belt we used to do that on my friends old mustang. it made the squeaking go away. good luck.

Check the harmonic balancer. I had to change mine recently (90LE, 140K). It was split at the joint. Lucky I caught it in time.

The solution follows here. 1. Do NOT use belt dressing. It eats the rubber and then you will just be at 2) change the belt. 3) if the belt is good, use some silicone spray on it, or even armor all. 4) If it won't stop it, change belt.

(Did you have an accesory changed recently? One time i had Pep Morons change an alternator and they put one on that had a pulley too small. And what's more they stripped the clamp bolt. It took me months to figure this out. Take the high road though, just assume people are not idiots or just watch out for yourself.)
