Powerchip

Hey guys !

Just checking out some pages and found this page that had chips for the Camry.Seeing as I have a 2.2L model this is what they have available -

"Your Toyota Camry 2.2 uses an ECU which has an embedded processor. This means that your car does not use a chip that can be modified. The Powerchip we provide for your car is an additional computer which alters the ignition timing of the vehicle for more power. Installation takes about 1 hour and can be performed by a Powerchip Authorised Fitter. We have authorized fitters in most areas. Please enquire at the time of order for your nearest fitting station.

In standard form, the Camry 2.2 produces 94 kW and 187 Nm.

Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 101 kW and 106 kW, and it's torque to between 201 Nm and 211 Nm.

The price of the Powerchip for your car ranges from AUD $689.70 to AUD $889.90."

What do you guys think,is it all bs ?

Anyone install one on their car ?

cheers

Jesus Christ, don't do it!

Seriously though, don't. That is waaaaaaaaaay too much money for far too little of a gain. Heck, with that much money, you're better off with other mods.

if that's the direct quote that you copied and pasted from the website or wherever, i'd say its a scam. They mispelled authorized and then two words later spelled in right, and they spelled inquire "enquire"

if its not a scam... i wouldn't trust soemone who can't spell to mess with the central computer of my car. That's like letting a 5th grader perform brain surgery. no offense to 5th graders

Chipping a stock N/A (normally aspirated) car does two things.
Increases your redline so that your engine will self destruct.
Removes the top speed governer so that you will self destruct.

Chipping a N/A does not.
Give you gobs of increased HP
Increase your bottom end torque

Your current engine computer is already designed to give you the optimum air fuel ratio (14.7:1) for your car with the stock equipment. A reprogrammed chip *should* be designed to give you an optimum air fuel ratio with your stock equipment (think of spending hours of programming to get to the point where you were to begin with.

You won't gain any HP going over the redline because you have a stock camshaft, you are already peaking your cam by the time you reach redline.

No one needs to go 130 MPH on the street.
You won't be able to drive 130 MPH on the track. (with a streetable engine)

You can get a nice used turbo setup for less than $800 then you can run up to 4psi with your stock computer.
Then you can go run a programmable chip and it will make more HP. at least up untill you reach the point your stock pistons and rings fry.

don't go with powerchip, someone on toymods did it on a Gen 2 and lost power (did dyno tests), then they didnt want to know him when he complained to them. if you wanted a chip, go with unichip. they have one for your car and they are reputable.

p.s. i didnt read the quote fully but spelling over here in australia is slighlty different for things, ie 's' instead of 'z'.
