When it rains, it pours.....

A few nights ago, I was out w/ friends having some drinks, and when we left, my gf had to drop her friend off in some podunk town out in BFE. I'm following her out there and I get pulled over. The pig pulls me out of the car, searches me, searches my car and then puts me into cuffs and sits me in the back of the squad. Well, no warrants or anything came up (thank God), but I got a paraphernalia ticket for a pack of zig-zags in my wallet. He lets me go, and I head home, thinking that the sooner I go to bed, the better. Well I wake up in the morning to find my passenger side mirror dangling by the power cable. After looking it over, I find that the only problem is the mounting plate that holds the side mirror to the car is busted. Has anyone replaced one of these. The mirror and the mirror case is fine, but know how factory parts are, I'll probably end up buying an entire new mirror kit, not just the mounting plate. Has anyone had to replace this piece or had to do anything similar. I'm thinking the part from the dealership will probably run about $300 US. I could get one on Ebay for about $75 US. I was even thinking about hitting a salvage yard where I could pick one up even cheaper. Let me know if anyone has any ideas that could help me.

hey

sorry to hear about the news. That happened to me too, when a friend of mine drove "recklessly" with my car and slammed the passenger side into a pole. Good thing only the passenger side mirror broke off. I thought it wouldn't be hard to fix (it was also dangling by the wires like yours) but the dealer said it's too hard to fix it, and it's better to replace the whole passenger mirror. not sure if they were telling the truth or not, but i got the whole thing replaced anyways. they had to order it, and it was about $300 total, which included installation. The mirror itself was about $175 or so.

hope this helps

I know here in Texas it is a crime that most officers turn their heads away at, sorta like no front plate. That said, it is considered paraphenaila and you can get a ticket for it.

HMMMMMM..... I got a ticket for zags in TX once but my attorney laughed at the pigs and they dropped the ticket. "They do sell whats known as "Rolling Tabaco", is what he told them!

I don't see how they could possibly consider it a crime or whatever because you can just buy them at any convience store.

If I were in Dallas, then the cop wouldn't have thought anything of it, but this was some bullshit little town that if you blink your gonna miss it. Po in those towns have nothing better to do than to try to raise tax money by any means necessary. Yeah, I could fight it, but, the ticket is gonna cost around $250. A lawyer would likely run more than $500. I've been told that I could have it deferred, so that's an option. Anyways, I'm still trying to find out how difficult it is to replace the mirror.
