my 2007 camry SE with manual transmission

Greetings all,
I've owned the car for about 5 months now. Generally love the car and enjoy the good gas millage, on the negative side, I find the cup holders below the shifter to be a big big joke, you cant have a tall cup in there and still shift, anyone else feel this way?, I also am wondering about how hight I can push the car before shifting gears, so far I go from:
1 to 2 at 20k/h
2 to 3 at 40
3 to 4 at 60
and 4 to 5 at 80 something

but I do want to push the car more, and wondering if it can handle it. I spoke to a sales rep in the showroom a while back and he mentioned that these cars "camry's" like the high revs, I'm sure he didnt mean to push it into the 4000 rpm zone, but I do notice that keeping the car in third at 60 k an hour (just when I should be shifting to 4), makes the engine seem to like me! lol, cant explain it. Any tips and suggestions for me?

thanks in advance.
A.

I run my 88' camry up to 3 grand(3000 rpm) before I shift......I would think that anymore is not good for any engine, let alone your Camry.

lol

our engines were made to rev.....not as much as a honda w/ vtec of course, but our engines were designed with little low end torque in mind

this way, when driving in-town, the car both saves gas and shifts less harshly giving the toyota smooth ride

to make the car go, you gotta rev the hell out of it...

I would say that 4,000 rpms is pretty conservative for a lot of us here in the Camry forum.
I drive my camry hard.

I have an MT also. The cupholders are a joke. The one behind the shifter is useless with anything but a can of soda. The other one has a plastic flap that is supposed to hold a cup in place. My first day with the car my coffee cupt escaped the grip of the cupholder and fell on the floor!

You should be fine as long as you don't do some crazy downshifting (over rev) or running the engine at high speeds continuously (i.e. 5.5K) for a long period of time...as it would equal bad gas mileage anyhow.

Anything below 4K is pretty good. I really have no real reason to push it harder then that unless I'm merging or doing something like that on the freeway. If your just doing city driving I doubt you'll have to push it hard, but the engine can be pushed hard without any problems as long as it is maintain (i.e. merging or coming on freeway from onramp).

Just to give you an idea, when I drive my Versa, due to the very lack luster engine, I'm using hovering around 3.35K on freeway driving. On uphill slopes, 4K~4.5K is uncommon for me.
