rough idle

the gen 1 has been having a rough idle when stopped at lights lately. rough enough that the hood shakes up and down about 1" to 1 1/2". the oil was changed about 600 mi. ago, and it only occours when in drive. as soon as the shift to N is made, everything smooths out.

any insight is greatly appreciated. thanks.

check plugs and wires cap and rotor, something is faulty might be plugs are too old and not firing or a wire might just be loose. it only does it at idle because the intensity of the spark is less so it is easier to miss.

i hadn't thought about it being the plugs... and they do need to be replaced... sounds like a DIY for tomorrow!

any recomends on which plugs to pick up? i've heard that Denso's are TRD's top plug, this would imply that i should get a set for my camry!

Check your motor mounts. The front and rear could be busted causing excessive engine movement at idle.

Frito: The sparkplugs are screwed into the head on a gen 2. To access them you need to remove the sparkplug wires, just pull up on the boot (don't yank on it by the wire).

Then you use a 3/8" drive rachet, 3/8" drive extension (6" long will do), and a 5/8" sparkplug socket.

Denso or NGK.

Either one will work just fine. Just make sure you gap them properly.

i had thought about this being the problem, then figured that they'll get replaced when a new engine went in.

No. The extra $500 is for extra parts that we need to make it a legal swap. Might be more then $500 extra, I dunno.

Remember that motors from Japan don't have smog equip.
