Camry 2001

I have a Camry CE 2001 with 86000 miles on it. When should I get the timing belt changed?

Toyota's guidance is 90000 miles for the timing belt.

Timing Belt

So I need to get the timing belt changed very soon. How much do these cost approximately? and what is done besides changing the timing belt?

I'd say to definitely change it by 100K. Although it wont damage your engine, it may leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Do you have the I4 or V6? Usually you replace the water pump at the same time, and it cost be about $400 for all of it.

Mileage? Engine? Toyota says: 4 cylinder, timing belt gets changed at 60,000; V6, 90,000.

Alot of people change their water pump and idler pulleys at this time even if they are still functional, because it is just easier to do it then with everything apart.

If you do it yourself the cost for parts is about $30 - 40 for timing belt, $100 or less for the water pump, maybe $50 - 60 for the idler(s). (I recommend toyota only for the timing belt because it has all the right timing marks on it and some aftermarket ones don't.)

You are incorrect. The interval for Gen 4 is 90 thousand miles regardless if the engine is a I4 or V6.

Here is Toyota's website stating this: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com...2001&int_id=64

I know, I have both. I wasn't clear but I thought maybe that's where marc780 got the 60K milage. No big deal.
