Question V6 running 5 cylinders?

Hi guys, I'm new here, just wondering what would cause a V6 engine to be running on 5 cylinders only....

Could be a number of things.

1. Dead cylinder.

2. No spark on that cylinder (bad plug, bad wire, wire fell off, etc..)

3. No fuel on that cylinder (bad injector, bad wiring, etc..)

My Maxima dropped a cylinder a few months ago. It was a failed ignition coil.

are there anything i can do myself to check?? of cos I can bring it in to the dealer to check for me, but (FOR SOME REASON ) i feel like they r going to rip me off and charge me like a 2 hour CHECKING fee.....

V6 running on 5 cylinders

What I would do if I were you so that you would at least be sure there's nothing wrong with the engine (and before spending money in new wires, ditributor,...) is go to a dealer (or any mechanic) and ask for a compression test on all cylinders. It takes no more than 5 or 10 minutes but you would immediately know if there's something wrong in the engine. I understand you prefer to try to do it yourself first but the only thing you could do yourself to check it would be to change a few parts, which would actually cost you more money.
