Question I Had To Get Front Sprint Springs Cut 4 An Even Drop

I just recently got my Sprint springs cut..Only the FRONT SPRINGS though to get an even drop..I know..I know.. its the ghetto way..but it gets the job done..I was just wondering if I bought aftermarket shocks like tokico or kyb would it help my bouncy ride quality..I had to cut 1.5 almost 2 coils to make it even in the front..I know aftermarket shocks are designed for aftermarket lowering springs..I just need advice from some who is in the same situation I'm in..Or who knows whats best..

-93 CAMRY
-WHAT I GOT SO FAR: THE BASICS
-short ram intake
-obx exhaust
-konig blantant(opal 17') 225/45
-Red n Clear tailights and front clear corners
-Sprint Springs Front had to cut 1.5 coils to make it even Rear 1.8'

How is your ride? I have Sprint springs also. I was going to cut my front springs too, but not as much as you did. I was just thinking about half a coil maybe 1 at the most. Is it bouncy? My ride is really smooth and I still have the same struts when I first bought the car in 1995. How are the 17"s? I had to put 18"s in the back or else my exhaust would scrape.

Yeah I am curious to how your ride is on cut springs and stock sturts as well?

Aftermarket struts will kill the bounce.
previously I had almost two full coils cut off my old Whitelines, now I cut a coil off my front Vogtlands and its fine... I will be cutting a half coil off the back ones this weekend and another 1/4 off the fronts.

My Camry RIDES pretty bouncy and harsh when riding over unexpected dip or bumps..The ride quality is still ok..I guess it depends on how you drive your car over the years..Basically wear n tear..My Camry is dropped evenly all around and it looks so clean..I'll post a pic sometime this week..So you can see it to believe it..Most likely I will be getting KYB GR-2 or Tokico HP to maintain good ride quality..

its not a matter of ride quality with cut springs man, they are going to be harsh no matter what. get tokico for sure- they can take the abuse of a lower drop than kybs (they will blow).

you will decrease bounciness, but the car will still hit hard over bumps and dips- its the price you pay for not having those "dead" coils to correctly support the car. i would get those struts ASAP before your stockies blow and you will bounce constantly. good luck- id recommend getting real springs... cutting your springs should be temporary only! its not safe (moreso on the highway)

Thumbs up

I heard that KYB's blow from a lot of people..Especially from my girlfriends brother who have the KYB GR-2 shocks..They blew after three months and he has skunk2 coilovers evenly slammed all round on his accord..Tokicos are going on my Camry for sure now..The cut front springs are temperory until get a lower spring rate or I could go JIC coilovers which co$t $1,200.. they should make ground control coilovers for our model 92-96 that would be sweet..Thanks for the advice Jon..I'm the one on www.Cardomain.com-3RD GEN SPINNIN CLEAN in the camry catogery and yours is Jon's slammed SE V6 5spd..Zer0five is my user name..I still admire your new ride height on whiteline springs in the front..

GUYS,,, i cut my sprint springs in the front 1.5 coils about 3 months ago... I would say that the ride only changed slightly.

I am still running on stock struts which i believe are original from the production in 1994.

I cut them myself with an air cut-off tool. You can also use a hack saw... Just make sure you do them evenly.

My ride is excellent on normal driving, and not too bouncy at all. it hold strong around harsh turns at high speeds. it is only rough when you hit an unexpected bump or hole. You also have to go crooked over speedbumps, and mine is so low that i cant go through an automated car wash anymore... It looks hot though.

In conclusion, I have found nothing wrong with cutting springs, as long as they are not stock springs. I know i should get new struts, but i need my money for my engine...

i cant say that i agree with you, cutting any kind of springs is not safe. first reason, you dont even need a spring compressor to put the spring back into the strut assembly MEANING: if you jumped your car or hit a huge bump on the road, the bottom of the spring could lose its seat, fall off the side of the lower spring seat and your frame would be dragging the ground **sparks everywhere and tires digging into the fenders**. itd be so low you would not be able to get a jack underneath, or drive it at all because the tires would be jammed into the fender wells. what if this happened on the highway??

sorry but im going to stick to my opinion that you need springs designed for the car- i would never plan on keeping cut coils as a permanent mod. i can also guarantee you that the ride quality with my whitelines (same amt of drop) compared to cut coils is a WORLD of difference. it feels like im driving a camry again, and not some $h!tty honda!

you could get away with just buying a set of front springs, it will probably be dead even with the sprint. i have 1.5 finger gap in front w/ tokico struts. probably a 2 finger gap on stock struts

i have to completely disagree jon, sorry. The springs arent as wide as stock springs, so even if the spring did slide over and the strut was on one side of the spring, it wouldnt fall off the seat (at least on a stock strut). see what im sayin? i dont know if you do your suspension yourself or not, but i do, and i know exactly how it all fits together, and believe me, if it werent safe, it WOULDNT be on my car...

So you saying that getting aftermarket struts lower it a little bit? So if i got stock rear struts plus tokico blues in the front the drop will look almost even? Are there any height adjustable struts for our cars?
