The brake of my 95' camry feels soft and loose. I go to pepboy, they said I need to change the master cylinder, and ask for $350+labor. I think that is much more than i expect , and they said they could not do it on Friday( I don't know why)
Is that really cost that much?? how about any other shops??
Thanks! and waiting!
OMFG, I changed my Nana's on her '95 Corolla BY MYSELF having NO idea what I was doing AND bleed all 4 brakes with only a tube, soda bottle, and wrench, in 4 hours.
A should should be able to do it all in under 2 hours. And a Remanufactured master cylinder is like $60

OP,
Pepboys, at least here in Nazi Jerky, have a less than stellar reputation for anything requiring any skill at all. I'd think again about that. Based upon your description, that price seems excessive. Check around in your area as labor charges will vary with geographic location. Cost of parts is also variable depending upon the provenance of the part in question.
Yeah i installed a new master on my Nissan pickup and if you follow the instructions in the box, it is not hard at all.
I had never done it before but i just bled the new one how they said to by propping it against a wall on some clean paper and pushing the piston with a tool. ($350 just for the part? Bah, i'd never pay that- try kragen or napa instead or even on line for that ridiculous price you can get it alot cheaper.)
Then bleed the brakes one wheel at a time (i use a stick to hold the brake pedal down to bleed when nobodys around to help, which is usually).
Just be sure not to toss your old one before you get the new one on, on alot of them you have to pop off the reservoir part and swap it over to the new one.

Also, many places charge a core. Need to turn the old one back in to get money back,
