Question Electric Fan

Hi;

I have 40,000 miles on my 98 Camry with a 2.2l and an automatic transmission. My water pump bearing exploded and I replaced it and the timing belt. When I was topping it off with new coolant, I notice that the electric fan doesnt engage unless the AC is on. I pulled and reseated the relay and if I hold the relay a certain way, the fan will engage. I will order a new relay tonight, but I am wondering if there is a coolant temp sensor that will engage the fan and if it is on the radiator or the cylinder head or what. They dont sell haynes manuals here. And as fate would have it, the Shop Manual that I bought with the car is in the states and I currently live in Korea. Could you please tell me if there is a temp sensor and where it is at? Thanks
Pat

The ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor screws into a neck thats bolted to the side (right side) of the head.

It has a plug with 2 wires that plugs into the top of the sensor.

The fans should come on if the sensor is unplugged.
