I am really interested in getting a nitrous oxide system installed, and have been looking at the Zex wet system and the nitrous express wet systems. I like the NX better, but my question is, how does the nitrous oxide get activated (by the driver)? I think on the Zex, they said on the website that sensors detect when the car is at full throttle, and it'll automatically pump NO2 into the engine. So i guess the Zex system does not let the driver decide when he wants the nitrous boost? (please correct me if i'm wrong, because this is only what i am guessing)
How does the NX differ? Does the NX wet system come with a button/switch that you can put, say on the steering wheel or parking brakes, and that you can push or flip the switch to activate boost? I rather have something like this, because i only want a 50-75 shot, so i want to activate N02 myself.
You have an activation switch at your controls which arms the nitrous at your will. That activations switch (which is inside your car BTW) is linked to a micro-switch in the engine bay where it is activated when you hit WOT. The throttle lever is what pushes that micro-switch and will only hit it at WOT. Then you have nitrous running towards and solenoid and injected. Its pretty simple and self explainatory if you look at it than trying to picture it out by my descriptions.
where can i get the button for self-activation? does either Zex or NX sell it, or is it something i have to "design" myself? but thanks guys for the info, i think i have a clearer picture in my head now. basically both systems come with activation switches, which i can turn on or off. if i turn it on, then the NO2 is"activated" and when i hit WOT, it will automatically spray NO2 until i am no longer at WOT.
YEah i would much rather have an extra button, so that i will have an activation switch and a button, so i can turn on NO2, and decide when during WOT i want nitrous to be used.
The switch should come with the kit. Its basically a toggle switch, kinda like a fog light switch. You can also substitute it with nitrous covered flips switches or whatever you desire. I have a flip cover switch because when I had the original toggle switch that holley provided my knees kept hitting where I mounted the switch so that pretty much solved my problems.
hey thanks velocity for the info. I'm glad the switch comes with the kits. Since you mentioned Holley, I'm assuming you got the NOS brand NO2? Which do you (or anyone) think i should get, Zex, NX or NOS? (all wet systems btw).
i like nos but if you dont know how to tern it on you might want to look at how it work and what it does. if you have a old motor you might want to get new rings and shit like that for a new motor you have to look at you set up to see what size.IE 50,75,100 shot(wet or dry)derect port or not>dont just this NOS is plug and play
I do have a basic idea of how nitrous oxide works, just curious about the button setup, because each company has different stuff in their kits. My question was for those who might have tried out more than one kit, and have a preference for a certain one (ie, NOS over NX, etc). I only want like a 50 shot NO2 wet system, so i don't think i have to do any major engine mods right now. Maybe some better spark plugs, but nothing major.
nothing wronge with the settup you said, but the button is for different settups.movies like to use it but as for cars not te best.
let us know how you do it and how you do with it
yeah i'll keep y'all posted on how i setup the buttons, etc if i do get nitrous. gotta look at my $$$ right now because just got the TRD body kit and am painting/installing it right now. But i didn't mean i wanted the buttons like from fast and furious, just buttons so that i won't waste up all my nitrous in one long drive or commute. but thanks guys for all the help
Hmm.. to answer your question on brand to get. Just think about, Holley's NOS has been around for decades. Its one of the most trusted and well known brands for nitrous (also the term NAAAWWWZZZ is frequently used for every nitrous system no matter what brand it is ). Zex, NX and all those other companies were introduced much later but have started with the experience with advance technologies. But really do some more research to see what fits you and how the system actually works. I learned from people who have nitrous set-ups on their cars and just eyeballing around to see what does what. One question to also consider is, is your engine prepared to handle nitrous? There are some upgrades, check-ups, and modifications to do prior to adding a nitrous system or else you cant even use it. There was a previous thread about this. BTW for my arming switch, i swapped the one provided for a covered flip switch because where i mounted my old switch, my right knee kept hitting it. That took care of my problems!

inorder to save you NOS tern off you tank and switches
definately true. without turing off your tank when not in use causes the nitrous to seep out from somewhere within the lines and in the end will cause a high pressure swelling effect. But since the use of stainless steel braided lines, the pressure effect will dominate your solenoids and fittings, seeping slowly which later on creates a bigger gap. So save yourself some n2o and the hassle of future problems too. Thanks for mentioning that warlock.
