I picked up my new '04 XLE V6 this afternoon and I really like it.
In the glove box I found two packs of rubber inserts (four inserts total), which I'm not sure what they are for. The writing on the package says "IMPORTANT To the pre-delivery inspector: Insert these rubber inserts into the holes of the center floor side member extensions.
Can anyone tell me what these inserts are for and maybe why they weren't installed?

PS - I noticed that the demo car I drove while waiting for my new car to come in also had the inserts still in the packages in the glove box.
Baffled as to why it wasn't done by the dealer. I'm also baffled as to why the dealer has to do it as opposed to the factory. Some things, like chin spoilers & wheel covers, are apt to get damaged or stolen during shipping. Perhaps this is a late fix for early production models and will be incorporated into production. Ask your dealer; after all they CHARGED you for PDI. Don't be skinning your own knuckles just yet. Perhaps they can look up any bulletins as to why this stuff is packaged. At any rate, I'm curious so post back when you find out!
Whatever these little rubber inserts are for the '03 as well as the new '04 have them in the glove box so nothing has changed that requires them in just the '04.
The inserts are oval shaped and about 1 1/2" long.

I called my dealership and found out where these rubber inserts go. They go on the frame; two toward the rear, one on each side and two toward the front, one on each side. I installed them in two minutes.
The fellow I spoke with said that the inserts are installed by the sevice department at the first visit for customer service. And that they have hundreds of them in stock just in case the customer didn't keep them in the glove box.
interesting, i've never seen that in my 02 camry, but that may be cuz the dealer already installed them. However, i did notice them in my aunt's 01? sienna.

sounds somewhat like Ploy to get customers to come back and do their service ther IE oil changes ect. keeps ya spendin more money there rather than somewhere else

Well, my first service is free so that couldn't be a ploy with my dealer. It could be that they just never install them on most cars. I don't really see how they make any difference whether they're installed or not.

Ive never seen those plugs.. what are they for.. damn my car sucks.. my 02 now sounds old with the 04 rolling out.. oh well.. guess its time for a new car..
The inserts just plug up a small hole in four areas of the car's frame apparently so water can't get inside the frame at those points. I suspect the hole is designed possibly for shipping purposes but I saw no indication a hook or anything was used. Maybe it's used if the car is shipped by boat.

the limited LE has 16inch wheels, fog lights, better fabric seats, different wheels, chrome grill, I'd get it if I didn't have an 03 already but I'm happy with mine
ps. it only comes in white

At least as long as I'm around here, you'll have to do better on your Camry trivia, or you'll be hounded mercilessly. . .
The 5-spd auto actually arrived on the scene in about Jan 2003, as a mid-year change to the 03 line (came at almost the same time as did the VVT-i V-6, although I understand that there are a very few 5-spd auto, non-VVT-i 2003 cars out there). My 2003 V-6 was manufactured in early March 03 and has both VVT-i and the 5-spd auto.
