changing color of the ignition or cigarette light?

anyone know how to change the color on the ring that lights up around the ignition and cigarette lighter? is it just a bulb with a green gel cap on it?

if it's a bulb, how do you take it out on both the ignition and cigarrette lighter?

I think you need to change the plastic ring... which you'd have to cut some plastic yourself for.

do i have to take apart the main dash jsut to get to the key ignition? if so, does anyone have a diagram of where the screws and clips are? i've taken apart the part of the dash surrounding the stereo and instrument cluster and i've taken apart the lower dash that is mainly near your knees. i've yet to take apart the big piece

No.

You just need to remove the cover for the steering column. Theres 2 halves to it with screws on the bottom half.

that would be true if my 92 camry's ignition was on teh steering column itself but it's not, it's located next to the steering column on the dash just below the instrument cluster

I would definately make sure the car is turned off when you remove and replace the lighter socket as to minimize the chances of shorting out the connection and blowing a fuse. It is only turned on when you have the key on the accessory or on position, so unhooking the battery is not needed. I have had mine on and off about 6 times this week, and it still works fine.

ok buddy, dont think 88le doesnt know what hes talking about... being sarcastic like that does no good. he might not like you anymore and not wish to help you out. he has a lot of knowledge inside of him and you might need it.

he was right, you have to take off the steering column cover (3 screws on bottom), and the bottom dash panel (4 bolts).
then remove the lock cylinder cover from the front by prying it out gently with a small screwdriver.
under the key lock cylinder there is a little hole in the center.
push it in with a small screwdriver
then put the key in the acc position and pull the cylinder out.

its all about respect kids... if you want to get respect, you better give it.

my apologies to 88le and to all, i had no intention of being sarcastic.

i did not know i had to take the steering column cover off before getting to the dash til i took a look when i drove to work earlier.

i do respect 88 le and his knowledge, i just thought he was mistaken and thought of a diff model of camry that had the ignition on the steering column (not sure if there is, my dad's accord is like that tho). please, i really did not mean for that to sound sarcastic and i respect him and everyone on this forum very much because without you guys, i wouldn't know a darn thing about my camry.

Everybody smile now and hug

...I used theatrical gels (used to color stage lighting) or colored acitate to change the color of everything on my dash.
...both are available from your local art store
