Unhappy Lots of emissions problems, need help

Hi guys,

I have a 1998 camry le v6, recently the check engine light came on, i brought in into the dealer and they told me it was the mass airflow sensor, i bought the 180 dollar part and changed it myself, reset the computer, light came back on, so i brought it in again, now they are telling me its the O2 sensor but i have a california car so its not an 02 sensor its an air/fuel ratio sensor. The sensor is bad in bank one, sensor one, i dont know if thats the sensor at the exhaust manifold or the one downstream of the cats. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated and if anyone knows where i can get a cheap air/fuel ratio sensor please let me know.

Thanks again,
Mike D

Why didn't you just take it the dealer and get them to replace the parts needed?? Now you have all this hassle. if something went wrong, then they are responsible.

What kind of helpful reply is that?????...bitc*ing about the dealer never works. You could always blame it on them and be a whiny bit*h but I dont think that quite helps. Of course they're gonna say this broke and that broke thats why he's here asking us..if you're not gonna contribute a helpful answer don't post...

In anycase I got my Haynes manual out and I scanned the pages dealing with the 02 Sensors. Its 5 pages and the zip is 6.15megs. PM me your e-mail if you don't wanna post it and i'll send you the zip file. You can probably open it up in the image viewer.

I think the #1 02 sensor is located right before your downpipe. I think its the one that you see right behind your engine fan. Check where you're exhaust headers go from 3 to 1.

Oh also ALOT of us like to do the work ourself and actually UNDERSTAND how the vehicle we drive works............and NOT get ripped of by the dealer

Well if were going to be rude about fine! I was simply asking is all.....I know how to do the work also. Never been ripped off by the dealer either cause I have my own private mechanic also. Now do you want to know how it's done?

Speak up if you're so inclined, and im sure we all have our own mechanics however dealers ARE known for taking advantage of those who aren't experienced and they also ARE known for having much higher prices
