Do you know if it is a Bolt on or a Spline, Mine was a Spline and Get a bar about 6 feet long, if its a spline, and just pry from under the hood and it should pop out with ease, and to get it back in, set it into place, and hold it straight as you can, and put a wooden block on the end of the axel and pound it in as gentle as you can so you dont jar the CV joints

1. Unbolt the wheel.

2. Remove cotter pin, castle nut, and nut (30mm) holding axle to hub.

3. Unbolt brake line and abs line (if you have abs) from strut.

4. Remove the 2 strut to knuckle bolts & nuts.

5. Seperate the strut from the knuckle and remove the axle.

6. Loosening up the retaining bolt on the center bearing (axle goes through it) and remove the big retaining ring (big ol c clip).

7. Remove axle from differential.

if you remove strut you have to get it aligned, you can just remove the ball joint and pulldown that sway bar and just let it hang freely

Even if you remove the tierod from the knuckle I don't think theres enough movement (left & right) in the knuckle to remove the axle.

The swaybar is not an issue if you jack up the front end of the car. With the entire front end off the ground the swaybar is unloaded.

I've always removed the strut to knuckle bolts & nuts when removing a axle on a 5S-FE. My 3S-FE is a different story since the axles bolt onto the differential instead of popping in.
