Unhappy Some ?'s...Help Needed

Well today I went to get my car inspected. (Gen 3.5 that I've had for a year now) I didn't pass inspection tho , I wanted to ask you guys some questions and see if I could get some help.

1. One small light in the left taillight is burnt out, I just need some tips on taking the tail light off.

2. The main reason it didnt pass was because both CV Boots on the front axle are cracked and are leaking grease. I was wondering if there was a way I could tell (noises, handling problems, etc.) if the place I went is bullshitting me or telling the truth. And what could have caused this. Its gonna cost $373. :

3. I'm at 108000 miles right now and the sticker next to the timing belt said it was replaced at 51000 miles. The guy quoted me $375 and then said I also needed some pulleys, and other crap replaced which would tack on another $350. Is this necessary? I know the timing belt changing is necessary but is the extra crap with the pulleys and all that necessary?

Thanks for all the help...I just don't wanna get screwed out of over a thousand dollars. I appreciate this guys.

Well lets see the taillight is simple. Just pop the trunk and remove the trim behind the suspect taillight. Its only these cheap ass black push ins. Get a pair of plyers or a wratchet set if you have one and there should be 2 small and i think it was 3 big nuts holding the whole assembly in. Also a little white plug clip type thing you got to jiggle a little to get out. Take out the socket just like a headlight ***PUSH the bulb in and twist.

The cv boots are just wear and tear. Its rubber and near a high heat source so you can expect those to go. Its just all that shitty grease that gets all over your rims and brake parts that sucks. I dunno how they checked that one while inspecting you. I think you can get it done for a bit less though. Make sure you just replace the axel its much cheaper then having them clean each side out and replace the boot and refill the grease.

In terms of the pulleys. That sounds like a crock of shit to me. Unless you can visably see cracks or dents or something that shows your pulley is going to fail nah dont need to go there. The timing belt is a must as it controls the cams and the crank.

I think thats it. Good luck and post up if you have anymore questions.

Thanks for the help, I'm gonna have the work done on the boots at the end of the week so I can get my inspection sticker in. I kinda figured they were tryin to get as much money out of me as they could with the whole pulley thing with the timing belt. I'm gonna just have the belt replaced and not the pulleys and all that crap. Once again thanks.
