I have a '99 Camry LE with the V.I.P. security system installed, and I'm planning on taking it out and installing a different system, but I don't have the slightest clue when it comes to taking it out or bypassing it or whatever. Besides going to the dealership, what can I do? Dealerships always seem to give me the run around, and I'd prefer to do the work myself anyways. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!
Well, cheap options are:
1) Haynes or Chiltons manual (I think they list the security system in there
2) ask a dealership service dept for a photocopy of the appropriate pages in the service manual, couldn't hurt to ask you know? I once got three pages of wiring diagrams for my old corolla this way.
3) get the actual service manual for your car from a local library
I pretty much figured that those were the cheap options. I have a Chilton and Haynes Manual for my car, and neither one say anything about the V.I.P. system. I have tried to call a Toyota dealership for at least a photocopy of the pages that dealt with the V.I.P. system and removal, but they said that they can't do that, and that I would have to come in, and purchase a manual. I haven't tried to check with the libraries around here, figuring since it's a newer car, and that the libraries around my area aren't that up to date, they wouldn't have one, but I could always check that out. But what I was hoping to find on here was someone who actually knew the steps, or if there is a way I could re-wire it or something to bypass it at least.
in your case, i would say, if you know nothing about it, take it to the installer this time...
i hate to say it, cause i never let anyone else mess with my electronics, but in this situation, thats all you can do... ACCEPT call toyota and get the electrical diagram book for your car...
the number is
1-800-622-2033
it should be like 35 bucks shipped at the most, its a very detailed book with all the electrical functions in the car CLEARLY described and schematics for everything. this will help you, along with the manual from your new security system.
if you need help installing the security system, ill help you out, i installed mine, but didnt have to bypass a factory system. I once had to bypass a factory system in a GM install i did though...

Thanks guys, I really think what I will probably end up doing is going to the dealer and getting the wiring diagrams and everything. *sigh* I will try and save the whole idea of letting someone else mess with my car when I've totally ran out of options. So I will probably end up calling Toyota sometime this week and seeing what I can do about ordering a manual for my car. And if I need any further assistance, I know just where to look. Thanks again.
