Heres my story. Its kinda long soo.....yea just warning you.
Basically, I drive my car pretty hard all the time and surprisingly it holds up very nicely. So far only problem i have had is a blown engine.
I am known around my group of friends as the kraaazy ass camry driver. And i have earned myself a reputation at school as the crazy ass camry driver too. I am known to do a FF drift down the parking lot of my school. So now, you understand my driving style i'll tell you some more about how I blew my engine and how I was VERY lucky at the same time.
I am down in DFW TX area and in the winter it gets pretty cold. Prior to the day I blew the motor it was 20F outside and was snowing! I did some major ass drifting around my neighborhood and had some close encounters with mailboxes. Keeping the RPMs at a healthy 5000-6000 in 1st gear through the duration of all the drifting. After about half a hour of fun, i decided to go home and give the car a rest.
In TX the weather is strange, snow one day, all clear the next. The road was clear and no ice patches, or at least i was lucky. I was seein if my friends theorey about cold weather making your car go faster. Well indeed it is faster so i wanted to time my 0-60 with a stopwatch and i ended up trying to top out the speed for the hell of it. When I approached redline 6100rpm in 2nd gear right before it shifts into 3rd gear....the engine goes BOOM and the engine check light comes on right. At that point, im thinking......ohh 5h17. At that point I didnt realize i blew the motor, but I knew that boom wasnt a good sound so I pulled over to the side of the road and popped the hood. There was a hole in the oil pan and i thought maybe i bottomed out and puched a hole in it and the sound came from the pressure rupturing the hole to a larger size.
I called the tow truck and had them tow car to the toyota dealership for them to check out the motor. The mecahnic popped the hood and told me that the engine is blown. I was actually quite surprised because i have been drivin this way for quite a while and I never had any engine problems at all. He told me that they would have to pull out the motor and drop in a new one. At that point i was thinking in my head that the repair was going to cost an ass load especially from the dealer. I asked him how much and he told me the estimate was around $6000!!! I was about to 5h17 at that point. Then he assured me that it was covered under the POWERTRAIN WARRANTY!! LOL
So I got a free rental car for the duration of the repair and got my car back in one week with a brand spaking new engine in it
BTW: Yes i still drive crazy, just not as often
So why do you guys thing the engine blew?
1) Me driving it hard all the time.
2) The previous day drifting all over the place and keeping rpm at healthy 5-6k in 1st gear.
3) Running the engine hard in 30F temp.
4) Just sum random thing? lol
I think its a combination of #1-3 what do you think?
