Well, I was in Sauga today and decided to drop by and see our friends at JRP. The result: a total impulse purchase.

As you guys already know, I'm not too happy about the all show no go aspect of my ride. In other words, I'm SLOW AND FURIOUS! To remedy this sad state of affairs, I have ventured into the convoluted world of engine tuning where the line between fact and fiction is fuzzy at best.

What did I buy?? A unorthodox underdrive pulley. I know there is debate about the benefits and problems associated with this mod, but here goes nothing! Being the estute Toyota guys that they are, JRP had my pulley in stock. So off I went with it in my hot little hands.

I don't have a schedule for installation. It will be cheapest for the shop behind JRP to install it because they have a "thing" going. But I don't want to drive into Sauga and leave my car there or wait or whatever. So I'll look around closer to North York or Scarb. Any recommendations of shops that are familiar with this type of engine component install? Would Elite be one of them??

Also, my plans to do a Celica/S2000 antenna swap has begun in ernest. I have taken a look at the existing digs and ordered the necessary replacements at DVN. In the interest of keeping the discussion civil, I won't go into the service at the parts department (I also ordered some misc. stuff at the same time). The only oil in the ointment is that the S2000 antenna is backordered from Honda Canada. Apparently, they keep on getting stolen, Anthony! BTW, Anthony, can I borrow your OEM RC car/whip antenna to plug up the hole while I'm done??

If these two things aren't enough, I'll be doing some durability testing of the FoliaTec intereior paing on inconspicuous parts of my interior. Anyone eles interested? I'm sure we'll get much better prices on the paint. It's $29 a bottle!!

It's Jeff doing his usual thing again --- the impulse purchase of the month!

So Jeff, please share with us the price of the pulley and installation cost.

And how did they happen to have a 5S-FE pulley in stock? Do they have/make 1MZ-FE pulleys too? How much HP gain is expected afterall?

Wait a second, I wouldn't call myself an impulse buyer. Most of my other purchases were well planned out and researched months ahead.

The pulley was $350 all in. Install should be about one more bill on top.

The advertised gain is 5-9. Maybe it will be more with my intake and exhaust mods.

I don't think there' s one for the V6.

So anyone want to enlightien us with both sides of the underpulley debate??

One for the V6 can be developed but we need like 30 buyers or something. As for those pulley they are good quality and im sure they will give some good power gains for there price.I have only used these on my last 3 cars so i know they work good and are worth the money as long as your engine is solid(not a Honda).

Jeff if you wouldn't mind me biting your styles on this one, I'd like to make that underdrive pulley purchase too. Mind if I contact you and get the info off you? That along with exhaust work and then hopefully turbo by the end of the year will be a nice 5S-FE no show, all go Camry

Jeff I wanna apologize for taking cheap shots at your "no go" car. After some though, I came to the realization that my responses which were made in a joking manner may have hurt you more than I intended. I see that my actions have caused you to make drastic and unecessary purchases that may put you in a financially difficult position, being a recent grad with a large debt load, GF, modded car etc... Pls accept my sincere apologies and make another visit to JRP and get a 50 shot bottle  or you will continue to be tormented by yours truly

Ouch, that hurt too!

50 shot bottle??!! Fuk that!! 150 shot, baby!!

Nevertheless, I wouldn't call my purchase drastic and unnecessary. Just a bit impulsive, that's all. Maybe subliminally, I was hearing you jeer at my no go 4 banger.

Hey Anish, if you want a pulley, why don't you buy it off me. I think I overshot my budget a bit this summer. I have the box and receipt still.

I can hear Dickson, Phi, Henry, etc. saying "What?? Jeff has a budget??" Of course I do!! I work hard for my mods. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth... it was up my ass.

Y'know, Dickson, Phi and I think you're just plain nuts. I didn't know you had a budget for a NEW PAINT JOB! Or for new 18 inch OZ's after buying 17" Enkei's 10 months ago!!!  Ha ha, honestly, as much as I think modding is a waste of money, go for it. It's a hobby, an expensive one, but a hobby...plus you see results quickly, well most of the time. Now's the best time to do it, instead of at 45 with kids and a wife. We ALL do it, some do it more, some do it less, some it ghetto styles! Wait till you see my custom MAF adapter....

BTW, took a client out for lunch today, he complimented my car...but it was 45 years old...he was probably wondering why the f*ck there were eagles flying on my deck....

I'm ecstatic to announce:

THE CELICA/S2000 CONVERSION WAS AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS!!

I used to have a toggle switch to get my antenna up and down because unlike the factory decks, aftermarket ones don't care whether you're listening to the radio or not, it goes up all the time. With that switch (an idea that Henry has "copied&quot, I can put up the antenna only when necessary (i.e. AM stations). But my recently-added RMM wing hits the antenna when the trunk lid is up. Also, it doesn't go up all the way anymore. So I've been investigating into doing the conversion, and VOILA!

I knew it was a good sign when only one day after I was told the S2000 antenna was backordered for weeks, it arrived.

The whole process took about 45 minutes. 25 of those minutes were spent twisting and bending the antenna bracket to bolt onto the support.

Here's the deal:
1. S2000 antenna - PN 39151-S2H-E01, $34.26
2. Celica sub-antenna (includes bracket) - PN 86309-20300, 35.60
3. Celica antenna nut - PN 86396-20030, $15

The prices are from Sisley Hondau (Yonge and Steeles) and DVNLT. Prices are in CDN, before taxes.

It's basically a bolt-on exercise. The only modification required was to trim a bit off the bottom part of the "antenna ornament" (official parts dept. name for the rubber boot on the rear quarter panel around the antenna). As mentioned, the most challenging part was twisting the bracket which came with the antenna to meet the existing bolt hole.

Reception is excellent. I get to listen to my fav channel, 680 News when I'm not listening to Andy Hui or Eason Chan.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only Gen3 in the world with this. WHOA!! Me so proud!!
