timing out on 82 000km car?

i can hear what i think is all the little valves going up and down and stuff coming from the top of my 3s-fe with roughly 82 000km. might it be the timing? does the engine really have to be tilted to get at the timing belt?

What your hearing is valve tick.

so this is normal? just i don't remember it always happening, perhaps after i changed oils?

thats good news for when i will have to change the belt, my repair manual if i remeber correctly says you have to tilt up the engine to get at the timing belt.

Yup.

If your really worried about it you can pull the valve cover off and check the valve lash on each valve to see if its within spec.

Theres a sticker on the firewall that says something like:

Valve clearance (cold)

Intake .007 - .011 in. (.19 - .29 mm)
Exhaust .011 - .015 in. (.28 - .38mm)

Theres a mount that you have to remove. What you have to do is support the motor by the edge of the oil pan with a jack then remove the mount.
