Got my 99 Camry Tranny today! [PICS]
w00t.
My pressure plate took its last breath about 2 weeks ago and since then I've placed an order for a new clutch (SPEC stage III), and since that will take about 2 weeks to arrive, I figured I would do a search and see if any Gen4/Solara trannys were available on www.car-part.com. There was only one in Canada and it was all the way in Alberta, and they said it was damaged in an accident, so I had to look south of the border. I found a 99 Camry V6 tranny with only 51,000 KM at an auto parts recycler in Akron, Ohio for a good price, and I got it picked up by a family friend from Windsor and then shipped to me here in Toronto. I got a Fidanza flywheel waiting here at home and once I the clutch arrives, I will have everything I need to install it all at once and save me tons on labor. Im not sure yet weather to get a Kaaz or Cusco LSD, but I'll decide soon... Here are some pics:
originally when my tranny went i opted to go the same route and go with a rear-end collision camry's tranny. its been good with no problems however for anyone looking to swap or replace a tranny id go with a rebuilt and have a repectable tuning shop fortify it.

Synchros on 2nd and 5th were on there way out... better to replace sooner than later -- plus the tranny Im running right now was from a 92, and from a wrecker, so its shifted kinda rough from since I got it... I figure it better to fix all the ailments at once and save on labor. Not to mention that this was WAY cheaper than getting a rebuid, and I get all the benefits of a good condition bellhousing, double-cone synchros, and smoooth shifting.

"I got nothing to declare, officer"
I got my own goons to take it across the border -- they declared it as "casual goods" and paid PST and GST on it... like $100 extra, but it was well worth it... I still spend only around $800 and change total, which is excellent for such a rare tranny.
