I'm looking to swap my old engine out and put a stronger engine in my 1996 Camry 2dr coupe 5spd.. I was thinking of putting a Celica Gt-s engine.. help me out and let me know where i can find one and what to put in it..

i am looking for a way to hook up my 96 Camry Coupe (i got it when i was in high school), so if any of you know where i can mind any mods just email me and i will greatly appreciate it.
My name is Brad Franklin. I am stationed at Holloman AFB.
I own a '96 2DR 5SPD 4CYL Camry!!!
So far my mod's include the Burien Toyota turbo kit, Magnecor wires, MR2 turbo plugs, ARP head studs, Greddy cat back exhaust, Catco freeflow catalytic converter, Intrax springs, Rod Millen Motorsport rear spoiler, Centerforce dual friction clutch, Greddy turbo timer, TRD quickshifter, TRD boost gauge, TRD low temp thermostat, TRD radiator cap, and TRD oil cap
first of all, list your engine when you talk about mods or anything. second, read this thread which you would have found if you... DID A SEARCH!
also what celica gts engine were you thinking? an old one? (not much gain from ours) or a newer celica gts with the 1zz-ge vvti-l??
i would LOVE to see the new 1zz engine installed in a camry... HA, that would be so awesome! those are badass engines, my girl has a 2000 gts with that engine, its fast!

Celicas are a LOT lighter than our Camrys...that could be a factor too. :p
P.S. Since the 2ZZ engine (Celica GT-S engine) isn't from the same "family" as any Camry engines (5S-fe, 2AZ-fe, or 1MZ-fe), it'll most likely be a lot more trouble than its worth.
my bad it was the 2zz in the gts, 1zz in the other new celicas. Yeah i know they are lighter and stuff, but its still a bad ass engine at 180 HP stock. Many performance mods are being produced now for it too. Wiseco is making pistons, turbo kits are coming out... good shit! anyways, i know it would be tough to do that swap, but it would be damn cool, thats all im saying.
the 3sgte swap is very difficult to do. Aussie Ed, it is extremely easy to do in gen 2 camrys, because the block is virtually the same between that and the 3sfe that is standard in the gen 2. in the gen 3, you need to fabricate custom motor mounts... besides that its not that bad i guess, but the motor mounts are a big consideration. then you have to worry about wiring. Getting the 3sgte ecu to work with the other stuff in the car would be quite a task.

i thought it would have been an easy drop in.
isn't the low end torque of the 1zz pretty poor????
I wouldnt say pretty poor...My friend's non-vvti'd corolla has some zip to it. But, putting it in a 3300 lb car as opposed to its stock 2500 lb car would be murder on the acceleration.
