engine rpm increases during shifting

My 2003 Camry has the annoying tendancy to have the rpm increase about 200 rpm when I push in the clutch to shift. After increasing, it then drops down. The engine does this when the rpm is over about 3,000. Of course I am releasing the gas pedal at the same time as I depress the clutch. The only way to prevent it is to let off the gas pedal, wait a second, then depress the clutch.

The dealer looked at it and claimed it didn't do it for him. Any ideas why it does this and how to fix it?

IT means ur on the clutch too early...........I just learned to drive stick so i know.

Off gas then clutch. Anyways anytime u clutch the engine rpm will flux as ur taking load off it.

don't rely on your tachometer so much, it doesn't show real-time RPMs, a symptom known has histerasys.

but anyways, sometimes i do that too, then engine revs up a bit while i am shifting, it's ok, no biggie, you just need practice learning your clutch point and throttle sensitivity on that vehicle, give yourself a few months and you'll see what i mean
