I was in a parking lot, waiting for parking spot, this bi***h backed into my car and bented my rear bumper. The whole right and corner bumper is bented in about 4-5 inches and scratched my rear panel ( i think that's what it's called). How much would it cost to get it fixed? What's involved in these types of repairs? Thanks for all your help toyotanation members!!!
thats what insurance is for and how much is your deductable. did you get the lady's insurance information or was it a hit and run? sorry to hear about your car though.
I had it happen to me. I was parked in a parking lot at a night club, came back out and found a 4" dent on my left rear quarter panel. dont know who did it or what so i was screwed with a 300.00 deductable with my insurance if I did plan of fixing it. But your better off than me because you know who hit your car and hopefully you took her information as well so her insurance should be paying your repairs. Just take it to different shops to get estimates to find out the cost range.
Being my first accident and all, I don't know anything about repairs, but we did exchange insurance infos. The prob is she doesn't want to go thru the insurance because it will increase her premium. she agrees to pay for the damage and recommends having her friend do the estimates. But I don't know if I should trust her friend. She said he works in the collsiion shop, but know ing that its her "friend", he might might overlook the other problems and just repair the bumper. I spoke with this guy in another collsion place and he says its hard to tell what the exact cost is because there might be more damage inside the bumper (fillings, brackets, etc) but the cost ranges from 750-1500. I feel I should educate myself first so that if I do get an estimate from her friend I will know if he's bullshitting me.
i've had a few friends that had big dents/scratches on their rear quarter panel/trunk/bumpber...the cheapest i've seen it for was getting hooked up at 500 (that's with the cost of paint)...
generally, it's more around 700+
edit: but that's hard to tell without actually seeing the damage

if you get in an accident and you know it is not your fault, first thing to do is call the cop to write a police report, incase she denies anything. you have something in hand. i've seen a friend who got hit on rear, and the guy said he will pay the repair, a week later, the estimate came out to be over $1000, and that guy said he is not paying for it. and my friend ended up driving around with a cracked bumper.
I had my rear bumper corner bent-in and a 2" crack in it, plus a very small (almost invisible scratch on the quarter pannel). You can take the bumper cover off very easily yourself and see if there is any more damage on the inside too.
Estimates were in the $700-$900 range, the cheapest I found was $550. The guy who did it paid out of pocket for it and we settled.
But, having the quarter panel damaged more, you should look at a Toyota's estimate and go from there. This thing will rust if not fixed.
The bumper cover costs about $220 from Toyota (unpainted). On top of that, put paint and labor for painting for the cover, plus any paint and labor for fixing the quarter panel.
Removing the old and putting a new panel is a 10 min job, so it is not in itself labor intensive - the bulk goes to painting (I was quoted 11 hours for painting the cover alone !?!)...
Last thing - the sooner you get it done, the greater the chance the lady will pay you... Most places will give you a free estimate - shop around for a reputable one. The cheapest places will usually not do it right - your paint color may not match or may peel-off later.
Finally, ask yourself if you would rather have it fixed or pocket the money and use it for something else. If you do not mind a small dent here and there, fix only the rusting parts for cheap. And if you plan to keep the car long enough, a $1000 now may be more than what you will loose when selling the car later if it is not in "excellent" condition due to the dents.

The accident occurred in a university parking lot, so I called public safety and had them make a note of the accident. The police officer said he can be an after accident witness. I did get a case number from him. Would that work?
oh yeah, by the way....my bf checked out the bumper. he hit it with his fist to see if thre are any sounds. he said that its only the bumper that is f**ked up. all i need is to either hammer it out myself or buy a new bumper and paint it. But since she's paying for it, i'll see wat his friend has to say.

Personally, I'd go through the insurance. The lady should have thought about insurance premiums when she back into you. You did the right thing getting a case number so that she cannot deny the incident.
Go through the insurandce and take it to a Toyota Dealership to get fixed! You have no personal relationship to this woman and her premiums will not raise that much. There is no gaurantee she will pay if you do otherwise!
This sux! I only get around 900 from her insurance company. I got quote from dealer and carruba collision and dealer costs 1300 to fix and caruba cost 1400 to fix. Shall I go thru my own insurance for claims? I have full coverage. I'm afraid my insurance will increase if I do that.
I was thinking of using that extra money to buy a body kit from ebay and have the shop install it and paint and fix my whole car. Do you know roughly how much to paint, repair, and install body kit? Here's a list of probs,
1. right fender dented
2. scratches on car (top and sides of car) (can't be buffed, tried)
3. quarter panel dented and scratched
4. rear bumper dented , need to replace
I thought, since I'm getting it fixed, might as well give my car a new face. Thanks for all your help! Oh yeah, one more thing, which body kit would look nice on this body kit
Im being lazy and not ready the rest of the post, but your first one.
But this is wat i would do since the same exact thing happened to me 1.5years ago.
Call up her insurance company and see how muuch they give you. DO NOT GO THOURGH YOUR INS CUZ IT'S NOT UR FAULT AND U DONT WANT UR INS GOIN UP. Once you call her ins up adn get a quote go to a few shops. get the best price and go throught it.
This is wat will happen when u call her ins company up.
her ins comp's collision agent will come by ur house and look atht he damage, then he'll give u a check for the repairs you take that check and get your car fixed. if the shop charges you more make the shop call the ins company up and the ins will cover the xtra charges.
ie wat happened to me.
i got hit from the rear right my bumper fell off and my quater panel got messed up. ins company gave me 1000. my shop charged me 1200 and ins paid me 200 xtra. of course it was nto my ins comp it was the other dude's.
i might sound a lil off, but that's cuz im trying to type really fast and watever. if u want more info IM me or PM me
Sorry to hear about your accident. It really sucks when someone damages something of yours that you go out of the way to take care of. I was parked in front of my house last year (I just came home from having my S/C installed and was planning on leaving in two minutes to go show it to friends) and the guy across the street backed into my car. The front fender, bumper, light assembly and hood was all f***ed up! The guy was like it is just an accident. Yeah, because his piece of junk mini-van could be spray painted in his garage and he didn't care what it looked like. Anyway, in Michigan (we have no-fault insurance), if somebody hits your parked car and it is not your fault the insurance company will waive the deductable. The damage cost the insurance company $3800. I was pretty upset and this was a major inconvenience, but the car came back looking like new. Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is that it sucks, but it happens, so, don't get too stressed about it. Afterall, you may accidentally hit somebody's car someday, too! Good luck.
First off, notify your insurance carrier, give them a copy of everything you have about the accident, including the other persons insurance info. Their insurance will pay for the total cost of the repair.
Second, if the paint starts to chip or the bumper and everything that gets hit, either comes about orfor whatever reason breaks again after being repair their insurance will cover the cost to refix it for as long as you own the car.
Go through the insurance companies, in the long run if you don't you will be losing out.
