3rd Generation Love the Camry but...

Which idiot Toyo engineer came up with this stupid %$# setup on the 5SFE? You can't reach the lower hold down bolt/screw on the distributor cap because it is buried in a place where nothing can reach it. I tried a screw driver, I tried a ratchet...

Unless you can find the exact length of screwdriver or ratchet extension, you're screwed. Thanks Toyota!

Ridiculous!

Toyota is the best at mechanic ergonomics, i ought to know, i have worked on all of this shet for 30 years. On most Ameerican cars and trucks it seems like the engineering was designed by your worst enemy, they design them on purpose so you dont want to/ or cant fix their piece of crap. I guess they dont care at all that you are all the while promising yourself never to buy from this company again.

Anyways, all engine designs are a compromise, im sorry you cant hit that bolt easy but there's wrkarounds for everything. You bought a toyota so you wont be wrenching much unless its an 07.

3rd Generation

Yeah I know. Toyota is quite mechanic-friendly compared to others. My 92 Olds was a disaster. I looked up my Camry dilemna on Autozone. You have to remove the air intake hose and the air resonator (or at least shift them out of the way and then reach down to that lower screw).

But I got a good scare when it was finally loose and dropped right on top of the tranny. Thank god for magnetic screwdrivers.

I think it was just the "fun" and frustration of doing it in minus 20 that pissed me off.

Matt

spend the 5 minutes and disconnect the intake to reach that screw. thats what i did for easy access. hell, the 5sfe is a breeze in comparison to the ls1 or chrysler 3.7 i have to maintain as well.
