In the 4CYL there are 2:
1. A three-wasy cat attatched to the exhaust manifold
2. A second one further down the exhaust piping underneath the car, about underneath the armrest.
I'm not sure about the 6CYL, but it is probably the same.

You're screwing with me right. Just in case you aren't, let me explain myself. On a stock 4CYL Camry there is a 3 way catalytic conveter connected directly to you exhaust manifold. (Combustion chamber->Manifold->3-Way Cat-> Expansion Piping -> Catalytic Converter -> Exhaust Piping -> Muffler
When you add a aftermarket header, it replaces the stock manifold and should eliminate the 3-Way Cat.
so ur telling me that as long as u hav a main cat in, everything is ok.
the precats dont affect emissions? what do they do?
There's no such thing as a precat, there's a cat on the manifold and then one after the downpipe. In most states as long as you keep the one after the downpipe you should be fine. If you're in california though it's an automatic fail of smog.
