Check Oil Light On, But I Don't Need An Oil Change
Today out of nowhere my check oil light came up on my 92 Cam V6. I don't need to change my oil for another 1,200 miles. This may have something to do with it but right before the light came on I pressed the ECT Power button when I was trying to pass this Jeep, which I did by the way! I accelerated fairly hard for about 10-15 secs and my speed only hit 70mph for a brief moment. Then I brought it down to a steady pace.
The only other thing that might have something to do with it would maybe be that its been raining a lot here in MD. I say this because whenever it rains my car fairly frequently idles hard, vibrates when I accelerate like it kind of hiccups (as my foot is on the accelerator the car gives some gas but gives none then quickly gives gas and does this several time), and spews white smoke out my exhuast.
Maybe a combo of the 2 above caused my problem??? I will check tomorrow to see if the light is still on. If its not then I will let you guys know by posting a reply.
Thanks.

ummm....time to check your oil. the oil light doesn't usually come on until the oil pressure is really low- to the point where you only have a bout half a quart/liter left, which means if you keep driving the car, engine damage will occur

Accelerating hard to 70 is nothing, try doubling that. As the others said, check your oil level. I'm betting it's a bit low...
Hey guys! Thanks for all your replys. My oil was low. REALLY low. Now I'm good. Just out of curiousity, I have about 1,000miles till my next oil change. So how many quarts do you think I will need to hold me over till then?
Thanks.

Just keep adding it until it's in between the full and low marks on the dipstick. Oil is cheap, much cheaper then repairing an engine due to lack of oil.
always chek your oil....
if that light comes on its always bad news
make sure your oil filter/ drainplug are tight first of all....if not u could have leaking rear main seals, oil pan gasket or valve cover gaskets or you could be burning oil, which white smoke implies you might be burning oil or even have a blown head gasket....id say its time to take that camry to someone for a check up...
The stuttering issue sounds like a classic cap and rotor problem, my 92 v6 will do that if moisture gets in the distributor, smoke out the exhaust and all. Ask the mechanic to check the valve cover seals, the rear is a trouble maker as far as oil leaks are concerned.

Where's the oil cap located? I have a 3vz-fe engine. Please use terms that are easily understandable as I am not extremely car savy under the hood.
You say you topped off your oil and all seems good now.
The oil cap is simply what you unscrewed from the engine head to pour in your oil. If you take it off and check underneath it, it's usually a good sneak peek of what is going on inside the engine. An insane amount of crud would indicate possible sludge (Just an example), in your case if you're worried about a head gasket, just look for milkshake-like goo under the cap, that would indicate coolant mixed in your oil.
Or else, unscrew the cap, take a closeup picture and post it here
