3rd Generation Rain + White Smoke = Help!!!

I have been having a problem with my 92 V6 Camry with 135,000 miles on it, whenver it rains. I have posted it indirectly in one other post but I want to have a thread strictly devoted to my problem. So, here it is: Almost every time after it rains, my car vibrates (when idle & driving) and begins to spew out white smoke from my exhuast. When I begin to push on the accelerator the car will give gas but it seems to have problems with the fluidity of the acceleration. Meaning its kinda choppy. Sometimes when I take the Overdrive off it helps, but after coming to a stop and accelerating again the vibration and smoke returns even with the overdrive off. After maybe 5 minutes of driving, when I take the overdrive off again it helps temporarily. One of my friends thinks that water may be getting into my engine, maybe through those little vents at the bottom of the windshield, and that's why I get the white smoke.

If anybody has any suggestions/solutions as to the problem causing this that would help me out a lot.

Thanks to all!

First of all, it is best to include more information about your car with any post. What engine; 4 or 6 cylinder? How many miles on the car? What if any maintainance has been done to the car recently? All these things can come in to play when giving you an answer to your problem.

That said, you probably have an ignition missfire in wet/damp weather. The smoke you are seeing is probably unburned fuel coming out the exhaust system. As the car warms up after driving it 10 or 15 minutes, it may run a bit better. That's because the heat generated by the engine will dry some of these igniton system components. To begin with, replace the distributor cap, distributor rotor, the spark plugs and especially the spark plug wires. Then see how the car performs in wet/damp conditions. If the problem is solved, great. If the problem still remains, you will need to replace the coil inside the distributor. They have been known to develope hairline cracks and short themselves out to any metal inside the distributor. Get this repaired soon. That unburned fuel from the missfire going through your exhaust system will eventually destory the catalytic converter, increasing the cost of the repair.

3rd Generation

^ The last thing I repaired on my car was replacing the starter. Might this have anything to do with it? As far as the suggested repairs I will have to leave ALL of that to the mechanics cuz I have no idea what any of that is? haha! Anyway.

If anyone else has any suggestions/solutions that would be awesome!

Thanks

posted this in your other thread but sounds like it is time to change the cap and rotor.
