I have 205/40/17 tires right now and i was wondering if i should use the intrax/tokico suspension setup because i am planning on getting a bodykit later and i don't want it to be scratchign the ground.. i"m looking into the shogun or intruder styles. Anybody with experience or guess can inform me? Thanks. I am looking for about a 3-4 inch clearance.
You will NOT have the 3-4 inches of clearance if you use the wrong size tire. I don't know how many times we should repeat "WRONG SIZE TIRE! TOO SMALL!". That is a Honduh SH1TVIC size - NOT THE SAME SIZE AS A CAMRY!
If you think about this logically, using a small tire already puts the car lower to the ground, and adding lowering springs compounds this effect. Even a stock bumper will have scrapping problems, and you're think about a bodykit???? Come on!
Get a PROPER set of tires, and then start thinking about springs and bodykit.

yup cant stress that enough.. set ur tire size up first then think about dropping it.. 205 is too narrow .. i think 215 or 225 would be good also 18" would be a nice touch if u're goin for looks... i think anish knows the website for the tire calculator if u're interested as well in ur speedo accuracy....
or u can buy ur kit first.. lower ur car and see wat kind of tire u like that works as well if u want to go that route hehehee but be warned u will scrape... if that's the route u took..
As for tire width, if you have a 4 cyl 205 isn't too narrow at all... unless you are going for looks... then sure go for 215 - 235. But you'll be as slow as a tank off standstill!

I realize that the overall tire size is small but i'm about to change the tires soon, so should i get 215/50/17? I don't want the sidewall to be too thin that my rims will bend on potholes. will getting this size tires fill in some of the wheelgap so i don't need to lower it?

Buddy, you want to get the SAME overall size. Therefore, you don't want something taht will "fill in some of the wheelgap". Get it? 215-50-17 is fine. It will NOT "fill in some of the wheelgap".
PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH ON UP-SIZING AT http://www.tirerack.com

Whats up guys I'm new to the forum. So far its been real helpful. I have a 95 Coupe right now the stock rims are back on for winter but I was looking to get tires for my 17's. I am looking to drop my car pretty soon and looking into the RMM front lip. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with what tire size I should go with for the 17's I don't want to jump to 18's. I was considering 225/45/17 but i wasn't sure can we go 235 or is 225 the cut off? Thanks in advance. Matt
Well if you posted in this thread I assume that you read this thread. If you read this thread, how did you miss the convenient tire size calculator link that I posted above? I suggest you try that.

Yes, if memory serves, at least twice before. That's why I said:

If people understand what the slew of numbers on the tire means, it's not difficult at all to figure out what size tire is the most compatible when getting bigger wheels. It's just simple Grade 6 math, people!

205/40/17 is not a Civic stock size YOU should go do your math! thats Accords Size sh**vic stock size MAX should be 205/40/16 (till the point where it doesnt affect the speedo.) for Camry stock is 205/65/15 >next up should be 205/55/16 and then it should be 205/45/17 if you want to have a correct speedo if you want more meat on the tires then just go wider like 215/45/17 but that should be the correct sizes for the camry ( correct me if im wrong) im just using logic here

Since you invited me, I will correct you. You are wrong, you're logic is also wrong.
If you know what the numbers mean, and know how to calculate overall diameter you won't be saying that the only difference between 215/45/17 and 205/45/17 is the "meat on the tires".
Rinnnnngggg...
Here that bell?? School's in. The first number is the width of the tire, expressed in milimeters. The second number is the aspect ratio which denotes the height of the sidewall, expressed in the percentage of the width. The third number is the wheel size, expressed in inches.
To get the overall diamter, convert the wheel size to metric (inches x 2.54), get the height of the sidewall (width x 10 to convert to cms x aspect ratio x 2 for top and bottom sidwalls) and add it together.
To get the closets match, figure out the diamter of 205-65-15, and find the tire size with the desired wheel size that matches the closest.
If you undertood what I said, you now know that 215-45-17 is a taller and wider tire than 205-45-16 - not just wider. It is the height (overall diameter) that is critical here.
Class dismissed.
Rinnnnngggg...
