CT26 Wastegate

I read that there are some issues with fittin the 3SGTE actuator in the 5SFE engine bay. Is this true? If so what modifications have to be made?

If you've had to go to an aftermarket wastegate, which has shown good results?

The wastegate actuator (wga) hits the block and prevents the turbo from bolting on. What you can do is cut off some of the metal from the mounting bracket for the wga then weld it back together. This might or might not work, I haven't tried it so I couldn't tell you.

Or you can try bolting the turbo to the manifold so that the compressor is on the left and the turbine is on the right. This places the wga towards the radiator instead of the block.

I'd go with HKS or Tial.

88LE if goin ftermarket for the wastegate do you think the 3sgte manifold i ssuitable for having a flange welded on to it for the aftermarket wastegate?

Good luck welding to cast iron.

You can try brazing, but I don't know how well it'll hold.

Yea thats what i thought. So then how would you go about running an external wastegate using a 3sgte manifold? or would you not go external wastegate unless you had a different manifold?

You can try cutting a hole into the manifold and braze a pipe to it.

But like I said above I don't how well it'll hold. The problem with welding cast iron is that it absorbs alot of heat.

Another idea is to use a threaded pipe and thread it into the manifold. But I don't know where you would find a tap big enough to make the threads in the manifold.

If the turbo is off a 3S-GTE the actuator should clear the block.

My bad for not reading more carefully when I posted my first responce.

The actuator on a CT-26 off a 7M-GTE will hit the block though. I remember having to modify one to fit my friends 5S-FE.

boost creep was always an issue i had when i was still using the stock ct-26..i'm not sure if u camry guys have the same problem....so once i upgraded turbo i went with ext WG setup....no boost creep any more....boost holds steady and strong....i'm using the stock manifold also with adapter plate to house the turbo and HKS WG....
