I actaully saw a pic on ebay the other day. I can't remember how I came across the link though. I lurk on too many sites I think it was in the buy/sell sectio of either SolaraGuy or SC3

i wonder what kind of center caps will fit the IS300 wheels??
rav4?? matrix??
thanks for the replies
Question for you - what size tires are you running and did you need spacers? On my '00 LE 4 cyl with '01 IS300 wheels I needed 5 mm spacer in the rear to fit 215/50-17 tires. 10mm would have been ideal though...
Just wandering if tire brand matters in this regards (section width) - mine are Continental ContiExtremeContact and without the spacer they rub the rear struts.

from the above thread he mentions his tires are 215/45/17 , looks like those fit for gen4 by looking at his pictures.
Does anyone think these is300 rims will fit a gen5 also? I have the 03 v6 le
I used a tire calculator and if you go from stock 205/65/15 to 215/45/17 your speedometer will be 3.4% fast, when going 60, actual speed will be 57.9, not too bad (if the tire is 215/50/70, your speedometer will only be 0.1% fast)
the sidewall, radius, and diameter actually decrease when you use the 215/45/17 compared to stock tire so in theory it has to fit, I'm not an expert though
(if you compare the stock against 215/50/17, sidewall decreases by an inch but radius and diameter stay the same.)
so the question is if anyone knows for sure the is300 rims 17x7 with the tire 215/45/17 will work out on a 2003 camry?

Apparently 215/45/17 fit but 215/50/17 don't - that's what I'm getting from various posts and my own experience with the latter.
But I would not thrust the description on e-bay. The offset on the IS300 rims is +50, where the ofset on Camry/Solara is +40 (or so). The 10mm limits your choice of wider tires. Yeah, they will fit with 205 and some 215 tires, but I really do not like the fact that I need a spacer for a close to stock diameter or 225 tire...
When I bought the guy said it should fits with my tires and that the offset was 42 mm - both not true. He covered the cost of the spacers I had to buy after the fact, but having them is a hassle and I think it affects my wheel balance by not being able to perfectly center the wheels in the rear.
To your question, 2003 I believe also has +40 or so offset, so you'll ptobably run in the same issues. Plus, doesn't the 2003 use a slightly larger diameter tires than '97-01? Thus making your odometer off even more and the wheels would look small if you go with 215/45/17?
Lastly - I really like the look and the quality of the Lexus rims (they seem to be quite strong) but they are heavy. I have no measurements, but they are noticeably heavier than the stock 15" steel wheels I had before...

I like the look of them also..the seller in this auction told me they weigh about 21 pounds, is that considered heavy or average? the reason I like them is they are factory
He has a couple of pics how it looks on a gen5, I think the tires are 215/45/17 because in another auction he sells the rims+tires together
according to tirerack 2000 camry le had tire dimensions of 205/65-15 , same as now , at least on mine
seems complicated with all these offset, speedo-odometer problems , (and the spare would be useless ?) I'll probably keep the stock until I have some more experience with these things, I wasn't really looking to do anything to the car until I found this forum, so I was getting ideas,
BTW Kocho, how was your ride after you put on the larger tires? Was is still quiet? felt more bumps? or pretty similiar?

Keep your spare, but also keep a set (5) of your original lug nuts for it. If you had steel wheels, then you will need the old lug nuts for the spare - the alloy wheels (OEM or Lexus) use different type of nuts that are incompatible with steel wheels. I had to drive my car with a mix of 15" OEM and IS300 wheels at a couple of occasions, and you can't tell the difference, unless you start turning fast...
My car is noisier than my friend's '98, but this is due to my stiffer spension (TRD springs and Tokico struts). Before I went up to 17" wheels I had the stock 15" steelies and the car was still noisier than his - due to the firmer lowering springs mostly.
Moving up to the 17 actually made my ride more quiet, because my new tires (Continental ContiExtremeContact) turned out to be more quiet than the Yokohama AVS dB they replaced (older model , not the S2 or whatever they sell now).
In terms of harshness, I would say it is only marginally rougher than 15". If you go to 45 profile tire, as opposed to 50, you may experience a little more of this. It mostly depends on your tires - and the tire pressure you keep. Mine are with a relatively soft sidewall and cushion me enough. Plus, I keep my tires at 35-36 psi, where some people go up to like 40 on low profile tires - they would feel a lot more harshness I suspect.
Bottomline - If you keep the stock suspension, then moving from 15 to 17 probably will not introduce any significant increase in noise if you keep comparable tires. If you upgrade the suspension too, then you will sacrifice some comfort for sure.
