We just purchased a 2005 Silver Camrey LE for our son who is turning 16 in a few months. It was his "female" cousin's car and we would like to make a few modifications to make it a little more "male teenage cool". We were thinking of new rims and tinting the windows...what other modifications are available to trick out the car?
+ Let him pick out some wheels
+ Get him some performance Struts & Springs
+ New Head Unit with CD & Auxiliary, Better Speakers
+ All-around Tint Job [keep it legal since he's only 16, dont want attention from cops]
and get him some tools so he can do repairs and other misc. stuff himself - there are plenty of DIY projects for him to get into once the car is his

Hey i look at it like this. i had to buy my own car first off. then the pars bought me one once i proved i could care for a car properly. but i spose some don't have that. a 2006 model car for a 16 year old? is he paying? i've got a 90 model and it's perfect for me! why such a new car? what if he wrecks it next week? pay $500 to $1000 for a real used car, then when he's proved he's a safe reliable driver (cos i remember when i was 16 i was lethal, almost lost my life on one occasion, and ya can't he wouldn't cos we all do.) give him the car. and get him to put in for the mods. that way he'll really appreciate and care for the car for what it is. a very carefully and well chosen gift that will set him up for life.

I live in Kalifornia too. i have to say, tinting the windows is not a good idea here, it just gets you pulled over more often. So if it were my car, i'd skip that.
I say yeah change the wheels to something he likes. Then add on a factory spoiler, most people like them, and alot of places on the net you can buy them painted your car color. They are not hard to install, 4 holes you have to drill i think.
Other than that, i cant think of what else i'd could do without making the car look funny
I live in california, tinting windows will definitely not get you more attention(from cops) if done right.
California tinting:
70% on the front driver and passenger windows
any percentage on the back windows if you have side mirrors.
Lowering the car:
as long as the middle of your headlights are at a height of 24inch(around that) you should be alright if you're going to lower the car.
PS. I wish I had parents like you -- I had to do all the mods on my own and pay out of my pocket =P Though it also brings a sense of pride when you have to do it yourself.
