3rd Generation I Think I Fried My Headunit! Need Help Please!

About a month ago my 92 Camry DX V6 needed a jump start. Long story short I put the wrong clamps on the POS. and NEG. terminals. My battery sparked for about 10 seconds before I grew my balls back and took the clamps off. I finally figured it out and got it going, but my Sony headunit did not turn on. I tried pressing the little reset button that it has but still nothing happened. I have yet to remove the headunit to see if the connection is still good. I might do that today if its not windy as hell. I think its fried though. Anyway, does it sound like I've fried my headunit? Can it be repaired for not too much money?

Thanks!

The radio would normally have two power sources, a constant powered one for the memory and an ignition switch controlled for the radio itself. Usually when the jumper cables are mixed up various fuses and fusible links blow, this is the place to start.

^ How can I tell if a fuse has been blown? Does anybody know which fuse(s) would be for my radio?

Thanks

You get an ohm meter or continuity tester and put the probes on the ends of the fuse and test for 0 ohms or continuity of the fuse. If the resistance is infinite or no continuity, then the fuse is blown.

3rd Generation

Hey guys,

I'm just writing back to let you all know that I found out the problem with my headunit that I thought I fried. I checked all the fuses in my car except for one on the passenger side kick panel. Luckily this wasn't the problem cuz I couldn't figure out a way to check it without braking something. Anyway, the problem was with a fuse that was attached to the headunit itself on the back. Luckily I had an extra #10 fuse in the fuse/relay compartment under my hood

So, for anyone in the future who thinks they fried their headunit, be sure to check all your fuses INCLUDING the one that may be behind your headunit!

Sweet deal.

FYI: the number on the fuse is the amp rating of the fuse. So normally you say 10A not #10.
