Engine Reuild; need tor bore it out?

OK, well the 3SFE is actin up, and I'm thinkin bout rebuildin the whole thing. So the question is do I need to have the block bored out before i put in new pistons and rings? Is it like turning your rotors (you need to do it every once in a while), or is mainly for performance gains? And if I get it bored out, dont I have to get speciality piston rings to make up for the bigger stroke?

If the cylinder walls are in good condition you can just have it honed.

Are you going with oversize pistons? If so then yeah the block will need to bored.

Boring and honing is 2 different things. Boring increases the size (bore) of the cylinder.

Honing removes the glaze on the cylinder walls and gives it a nice cross hatch pattern.

Boring changes the size of the cylinder bore not the stroke.

If you bore out the block you need larger pistons.

Oh after you strip down the block (remove everything from it so you have just the block) take it to a machine shop / engine builder.

Have them checkout the block and measure the bore on the cylinders. They'll be able to tell you if you can just have it honed or if it needs to be bored.
