Noise when driving on rough road

My car is 99 Camry V6. I can hear some noise (just like sth is hitting the underneath of the trunk) when driving in rough road at high speed. I can't hear the noise when approaching the speed pump perpendicularly, but I can hear that noise when approach at an angle with some speed. Anyone cant tell me what's wrong with the car? Is it related to strut mount. Please help. Thank you very much!!

Is it a squeaking sound? Knocking sound? Rattling sound?

Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate it!!
It's a knocking sound. It sounds like u use your fist to hit the bottom of the trunk from bottom. Pls advice. Thanks!

Hmmn..
still could be many things... gen4 had problems with noises and the strut mounts in the front, not in the back, although it's possible you could have a blown strut and something's hitting when you go over the bump?

You could also check to see if you have clearance between your swaybar endlinks and the strut housings... if something shifted and it hits the strut mount, it can also make that knocking noise.

Thanks very much. I will try to remove the whole whiteline swaybar see if it's cause the noise. You are from Cal? I got my undergrad from Cal last year!

I have a 2001 Camry, and mine does the exact same thing!!!

Usually it happens on the highway when I hit a bump, or pothole.......but it sounds like it's coming from under my seat, or between the seats.

hmm. ...let me pay more attention to the location of the noise. Do u use to have that kind of knocking noise? I don't have it until recently. I will go to check see if the exhaust is hanging or sth. Thanks for your advice.

Oh! You have the whiteline swaybar?
Those are the exact symptoms I had with the bar!

The problem is that the bar isn't centered between the two sides. If you compare it to the stock bar, notice how the Whiteline bar doesn't have the rings on the side to keep it in place. If the bar is centered when you install it, you may not have problems at first, but it may slip over time if you corner hard.

And yep, I'm at Cal... last year EECS... go bears!

This isn't rubbing in my case.....more like a quick knock, or bump.

If it sounds like metal to metal contact and you have an aftermarket swaybar... check your strut to endlink clearance.

(see my post above)
